In the next few months, we'll be looking at the learning experiences of students who have volunteered to share about their internships at our partner VWOs. We'll start off with Josh, Fiorina and Fiona in VWOs with seemingly disparate beneficiaries but with one common thread: their service not only impacted VWOs with whom they worked, it also changed them in more ways than one. Here are some tips for those who are beginning their internships for the summer break:
1. Don’t be afraid to talk with people
Don’t be intimidated because you are a student. People are sometimes too busy to roll out the red carpet so you have to make the first move to talk with coworkers and supervisors. Break the ice, it'll be worth making that extra effort in the end. Whether it’s saying yes to lunch or after-hours sessions, jump on every opportunity you can.
2. Ask for things to do.
Don’t wait to be told what to do. Solving problems and taking initiative are the best ways to stand out from the crowd.
